Day 15: Welcombe to Hartland Quay

Today was a gloriously sunny day and our walk was less strenuous than yesterday but the views were equally as magnificent. We ambled, taking our time and taking advantage of seats along the way to enjoy the views. When we arrived in Hartland Quay, there was a car park and nothing else (or so we thought) and our Komoot App directed us towards the village – a long climb for about a mile. We then discovered that our hotel was back at the Quay, sheltered below the high cliff! This meant that they had finished serving food by the time we arrived. I wasn’t very popular today!

A Backward Glance

‘Komoot’ tried to take us down the precipitous hill we’d staggered up the evening before, so, in what is becoming a regular response we ignored his continual “make a ‘U’ turn” advice and followed the mostly tarmac lanes down to ‘Welcombe Bay’. Then it was another steep climb leading to a pleasant, cool, long, mainly flat walk under pale blue sky along highest cliff tops yet. We arrived at our destination, ‘Hartland Quay’ in plenty of time for lunch. However, Carol confidently strode up the road leading out of the Quay saying it’s along this road somewhere. TWO miles later we turned around and made our way back arguing over divorce settlements.
