We decided to take a break in the lovely city of Bath, chiefly because I needed to replace my boots: I should have followed David’s example and bought new boots before setting out on our walk. Walking through water and mud for so many days finished my very comfortable boots, which were no longer waterproof. An extra day allowed me to break in my new boots.

We were delighted to have breakfast with my friend Helen, who was visiting a friend in Bath.
